Privacy Policy

Effective: August 19, 2026  ยท  Last updated: August 19, 2026

The short version. CabinetIQ needs to know what's on your shelf in order to tell you what you're running low on. We store your pantry inventory, your account details, and readings from your CabinetIQ shelf. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your grocery data for advertising.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how CabinetIQ ("CabinetIQ," "we," "us") handles information collected through the CabinetIQ mobile app, the CabinetIQ smart shelf, and the website at cabinetiqco.com (together, the "Services").

You can reach us at hello@cabinetiqco.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address, and a display name if you provide one. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password ourselves.

Household and inventory data

To make the product work, we store the contents of your pantry and how it is organized:

Device and sensor data

If you set up a CabinetIQ shelf, we collect data from that hardware:

During setup, the app sends your WiFi network name and password to the shelf over a direct Bluetooth connection so the shelf can join your network. These credentials are transmitted from your phone to your device and stored on the device itself. They are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Subscription information

Premium subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and managed by RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status and an anonymous customer identifier. We never receive your credit card number or billing details โ€” Apple handles payment and does not share those with us.

Website and waitlist

If you submit your email through a form on cabinetiqco.com, we collect that email address in order to contact you about beta access and availability. Our website host records standard server logs, including IP address and browser type.

Barcode and product lookups

When you scan a barcode, that barcode is sent to a third-party product database to retrieve the product's name, brand, and category. These lookups are not tied to your account identity at the provider.

3. How we use your information

What we do not do. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your grocery or inventory data with advertisers, data brokers, insurers, or retailers. We do not use your pantry contents to target ads.

4. Who we share it with

We share information with service providers who help us run CabinetIQ, and only for that purpose:

AppleApp distribution and in-app purchase billing

We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a merger or acquisition โ€” in which case we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

5. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights โ€” including the right to access, port, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Residents of the EEA and UK have rights under the GDPR. To exercise any of these, email hello@cabinetiqco.com.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and inventory data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete the associated data from our production systems, and from backups within 30 days. We may retain limited records where we are required to by law.

7. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS) and stored with our cloud providers using their encryption at rest. Access to production data is limited to people who need it to operate the Services. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

CabinetIQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Beta software

CabinetIQ is currently in private beta. Beta builds may collect additional diagnostic and crash information to help us find defects. Beta hardware and software may behave unpredictably, and you should not rely on CabinetIQ as the sole record of anything important.

10. International users

We operate in the United States, and your information is processed and stored there. If you use the Services from outside the U.S., you are transferring your information to the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when this policy changes and revise the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by email.
